LARP: live-action role play, explained plainly

LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing. The core idea is simple: instead of reading or being told a story, you live it. You get a character, a context, and a goal inside a larger plot, and during the event you play that character in real time, alongside other people doing the same with theirs, in a space dressed specifically for the occasion.

There's no screen, and no dice deciding things for you (though a few specific mechanics might use them): you make the calls, in the moment, based on how your character would react to what's happening around them.

What an Experiencia RPG event looks like

Our events take place in Buenos Aires, in venues dressed specifically for the occasion (like Casa Balear, in Boedo), and they're built around a dark sci-fi universe set in a distant future: in the fiction, you board a merchant ship lost in the void, and the adventure unfolds on board for the entire event.

A typical event includes:

• A character with a backstory, which you receive before the event along with a briefing on your role and your mission within the plot.
• Costuming and immersive sets, designed to make the space feel part of the fiction from the moment you walk in.
• Actors and organizers who keep the plot moving live, react to the group's decisions, and drive the story forward based on what happens.
• Boffers and blasters (safe foam and light-based prop weapons) that you acquire in-game (in character) and that are already included with your ticket: nothing to buy or bring yourself.
• Missions and puzzles the group solves together during the event, with narrative consequences based on the choices made.

No prior experience needed

One of the most common myths about live-action role play is that you need to already be part of a community, know the rules by heart, or have acting experience. None of that is true. Our events are explicitly designed so that someone who has never done LARP before can jump in without feeling lost: the pre-event briefing gives you everything you need to know about your character, and the organizing team is with you throughout the experience.

Age and participation

The event is designed for people 18 and older. Minors can take part if accompanied by a responsible adult. If you have a specific question about your situation, the fastest way to sort it out is to message us on Instagram or write to the contact email listed on the event page.

Costumes: optional, but they add to it

Dressing up isn't required to take part. Costumes add to the immersion, but you can show up as you are and still have the full experience. Sets as part of the story, not decoration

One detail that sets a good live-action role play event apart is that the set design isn't just there to look good in photos — it does narrative work. Every corner of the space is built to reinforce where you are in the story, and the objects you find during a mission are usually real clues or tools within the fiction, not mere props. That consistency between the physical space and the story is what keeps the immersion holding for hours, instead of breaking every time someone looks around and notices something "doesn't fit."

Why this is different from a board game or a video game

The key difference is physical presence and immediacy: there's no pause, no turn to calmly plan your move, and the people in front of you are also acting in real time. That immediacy is what creates the total-immersion feeling that defines live-action role play, and it's very different from anything mediated by a screen.

Live-action role play and the other side of Experiencia RPG

Beyond our live-action events, we also build a browser-based platform of cooperative games for work teams, designed for team building, onboarding, and training. They're different experiences — one is an in-person narrative immersion, the other is a team-development tool — but they share the same underlying belief: the best experiences are the ones you live alongside other people, not the ones you watch from the sidelines.

An original sci-fi universe, no borrowed references

Experiencia RPG's narrative universe is built entirely from scratch: it doesn't borrow any character, brand, or setting from an existing work. That lets us shape the story exactly the way we want the crew to experience it that night, without the constraints of someone else's universe or any need for you to know anything beforehand to enjoy it. Every new mission expands that same universe, so if you come back for a future event, you'll find references and characters that can connect to earlier missions — though every event stands perfectly well on its own for someone joining for the first time.
